ALR Hearings
ALR Hearings Houston: in Brazoria, Ft. Bend, Galveston, Harris & Montgomery Counties
The Department of Public Safety through the State Office of Administrative Hearings conducts all Administrative License Revocation Hearings (ALR) associated with the revocation and suspension of ones driver license arising out of a Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence arrest.
As such, an ALR hearing is vital to the maintaining of a driver’s license and a proper DWI or DUI defense. It is important to understand that the ALR hearing is separate from the underlying criminal matter.
When a person is arrested for Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence they have 15 days to request an ALR hearing. If a hearing is not requested ones license is automatically suspended on the 41st day after arrest.
The surcharges and costs owed to DPS can amount up to 3000 dollars to be paid over a 4 year period. The range of time suspended varies from 30 days up to two years depending on the facts associated with each individual case and whether or not ones license has been previously suspended for a DWI or DUI conviction.
